One Task a Day
Before you read this post, just know that I am not frustrated at all. It's just seriously ridiculous what the pace of life is like here.
Ok, so basically you can get maybe one to two things done a day here. When you do do (is "do do" proper English? I'm guessing noooooo......) things, it takes forever and sometimes when you think that you have done something, you have actually done nothing at all because after thinking you did something you realize that you actually did nothing. Confusing? Let me explain.....
So today I sat at "Reliance Cellular" (which I know now is not reliant at all!) today trying to fix my cell phone for 3.5 hours. The nice Tamil lady working there made me wait for one and a half hours for her assistance because it was "lunch time at corporate" from 1-4:30. What?!?! Who has a 3.5 hour lunch? Then at 4:30 she tells me I need to show her my passport and to give her two passport photos. Of course she didn't tell me that I needed them during the 2 hours I was waiting! So, I ride my hog/moped back to the hostel (10 minutes each way) go get my passport and photos. When I arrive with them, she leafs through the passport like she is some kind of authority, and then tells me I need to give her a copy of my passport. Then, I need to find a place that will copy my passport because she doesn't know of one. Finally I arrive back at Reliance and the phone gets taken care. She then proceeds to tell me that at 5:30, I can call this *283 number and activate my phone. I go home happy. Then at 5:40, giving myself extra time after 5:30, I try to activate my phone and it doesn't work. It doesn't work at all. Then I call customer service and they tell me how to activate the phone and I then, in a nice way, finish the customer service representatives sentences for her because I know where she is going with her description since I had just gone through the whole process.
Sooooo, guess who has two thumbs up, is partially sunburned, has small heat-related vesicles on the medial aspect of his index finger, is about to go watch the US lose in their first World Cup game, and is going back to Reliance tomorrow for round 2? Thaaaaaat's right! This Guy!

I'm not sure I would have given her a copy of my passport. What does she need that for? Ask th epeopple at the 283 number if she needs a copy. She's probably a passport thief.
JB you shtapidhead, you should know that everything in India stops at lunch time and reopens in the early evening and although India has made significant progress, it is still a 3rd world country and therefore I'm not surprised your cell phone is still not activated. Oh and stay away from paan, it's bad for your teeth. Neil
